I joined The Phoenix in 2021, and I've felt at home there ever since.
Most of my favorite places to be are outside and with family. Recovery gave me back the version of myself who could enjoy running, hiking and camping. I can be present with my family and show what sobriety looks like to my teenage daughters. The Phoenix gave me the community and proof that recovery is possible and no one has to do it alone.
Now I'm taking on something I never thought I'd do. My first ever marathon, and I'm honestly stoked for it. I'm running the 2026 NYC Marathon to represent The Phoenix and help amplify the recovery movement, because every person who finds this community deserves to feel as at home as I did.
This marathon is deeply personal for me because I’m running in memory of a close family friend, Jake Denison, who lost his battle with addiction on February 21, 2026. Jake was fiercely loyal, the kind of person who would show up without being asked, and he felt most at home outdoors—whether he was fishing, camping, or simply enjoying nature. His loss is a reminder of why communities like The Phoenix matter so much. Every mile I run will honor Jake’s memory and the countless others who deserve support, connection, and hope in their recovery journey.
My goal is to raise $3,500 to keep Phoenix programs free for anyone with 48 hours or more of sobriety.
Your donation helps fund:

Programs that give people their lives back, one day at a time
26.2 miles is a long way for someone who's never ran a marathon. But this is deeper than a race – your support offers a real path forward for people who need the Phoenix. Whether you can give $10, $25, or $100, your gift unites us in the recovery movement and you will be with me every mile of the way. Together we will honor Jake’s memory and offer hope. Thank you for being part of this with me.
Together, we rise.
