Those two sentences sit pretty close together for a reason. Recovery has been the hardest and most important thing I've ever done, and the 2026 NYC Marathon is the biggest physical thing I've ever taken on. Both took the same answer: keep showing up.
I'm based in Boston, where I volunteer with The Phoenix and coach as a Level 1 CrossFit coach. Fitness and this community have truly changed my life. They've helped me stay sober, stay positive, and they give me something to show up for every single day. The Phoenix believed in me before I fully knew what I was capable of, and now I get to be in the room when someone new walks in for the first time, scared, hopeful, ready to try. That's a gift.
I've done a handful of 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and Spartan races on the way here, but the full 26.2 in New York is new ground. I'm running it as part of Team Phoenix because The Phoenix has been with me since day one of my recovery, and I want to make sure they can be there for the next person on their day one too.
My goal is to raise $3,500 to help keep Phoenix programs free for anyone with 48 hours or more of sobriety.
Your donation helps fund:
- Free fitness classes, CrossFit, hikes, and group workouts for people in recovery
- A community that shows up again and again, no matter where someone is in their journey
- Coaches, volunteers, and programs that turn "I can't" into "I just did"
Whether it's $10, $25, or $100, every contribution helps somebody find what I found. Thank you for believing in this work, and in the people doing it.
Together, we rise.
