Hi my name is Avery - and I'm an alcoholic.
I never thought l'd make it this far. Younger me didn’t expect to see thirty, let alone three years sober. I never planned for running to become such a big part of my recovery - but it did.
Running isn't just how I clear my head; it's how I connect with my higher power. Each mile reminds me that progress is possible, that purpose grows when you move forward with intention. One mile at a time. That's how recovery works. That's how running works too.
This fall, I'm taking on my biggest challenge yet:
the Surf the Murph 50-Mile Race in Savage, Minnesota, on October 17. From June 1 through race day, every training mile I run will help raise funds for The Phoenix, a nonprofit that supports recovery from addiction through community, movement, and connection.
I'm inviting sponsors to support this journey through a per-mile pledge during my training season. I plan to run between 30 and 60 miles
each week from June through October, turning every mile into support for recovery and hope. One-time donations are also deeply appreciated Thank you for helping me run with purpose and support life-changing recovery work
The Phoenix is a sober active community that uses movement — running, lifting, climbing, riding, whatever — to give people in recovery a place to belong. No dues, no judgment, just 48 hours of sobriety and the willingness to show up.
I'm running and raising for the 48 campaign because I know what happens when someone has a community that runs alongside them. The miles get easier. The hard days get survivable. The wins start to stack.
Help me cover the cost of someone else's first mile.
